As we step into September, I am reminded of how far my friend Jerry Knight has come in his journey as a prostate cancer survivor. My name is Brandon Holmes, and I’m honored to share Jerry’s story and help raise awareness during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
Jerry is a nine-year prostate cancer survivor, a proud ambassador of the Prostate Health Education Network (PHEN), and the founder of You Are Not Alone: Prostate Cancer Self-Help Support Group. His journey has been one of resilience, strength, and dedication to helping others navigate this challenging disease.
Jerry's Journey: From Diagnosis to Advocacy
When Jerry was diagnosed with prostate cancer, he faced a whirlwind of emotions—fear, uncertainty, and even anger. But over time, he found strength in his journey and discovered a deeper purpose. Over the last nine years, he hasn’t just survived; he’s thrived and made it his mission to support others facing this disease.
As an ambassador for PHEN and the founder of You Are Not Alone, Jerry advocates for increased awareness, education, and support for those affected by prostate cancer. Through these platforms, he has connected with countless individuals who share similar experiences and has seen firsthand the impact that support and advocacy can have on someone’s life.
How You Can Make a Difference
This September, Jerry is launching a fundraising campaign to kick off Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. The goal is to raise funds that will directly impact:
- Research: Supporting cutting-edge research to find better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.
- Education: Providing men with the information they need to get screened early and understand their risk factors.
- Support: Ensuring that patients and their families have access to the resources and support they need.
Your donation, no matter the size, can make a profound difference. Every dollar brings us closer to a future where prostate cancer no longer poses a threat to men’s lives.
How to Get Involved
1. Donate: You can make a contribution online at www.defeatprostatecancer.org/donate or send your donation to You Are Not Alone P.O. Box 16247 Jackson, MS 39236. Every dollar counts.
2. Spread the Word: Share this blog post, talk to your friends and family about prostate cancer, and encourage the men in your life to get screened.
3. Join Us: If you or someone you know is affected by prostate cancer, consider joining You Are Not Alone. We are here to offer support and guidance.
Together, We Can Make a Change
Prostate cancer is a battle, but it’s one that we can fight together. Whether through raising awareness, making a donation, or simply sharing information, you have the power to make a difference.
As we observe Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, let’s take action and stand united in the fight against this disease. Together, we can ensure that more men survive and thrive after a prostate cancer diagnosis.
Thank you for your support, and let’s make this September a month of hope, strength, and progress.
With gratitude,
Brandon Holmes
